Twisted Tulip Ear Warmer Headband (Style 2)

Pattern Notes

  • Do not chain 1 before starting new rows, start directly in the first stitch of the new row

  • Starting with a foundation chain gives the bottom a more comfortable stretch and fit

  • Popcorn stitches can be worked from either side.

  • Popcorn stitches can be replaced with Bobble or Puff Stitches.

  • Ch - Chain

  • DC - Double Crochet

  • 5-DC-PC - 5 Double Crochet Popcorn Stitch

  • EDC - Extended Double Crochet

  • EDC-Ch1-EDC - In the same stitch: Extended Double Crochet- Chain 1- Extended Double Crochet

  • ESC - Extended Single Crochet

  • FCh - Foundation Chain

  • HDC - Half Double Crochet

  • SC - Single Crochet

  • Sk - Skip stitch

  • StSC - Stacked Single Crochet

 

Materials

    • Medium/worsted weight yarn

        • White

        • Brown

        • Green

        • Flower Colour of your choice

        • Light Blue

    • 5mm hook

    • Scissors

    • Tapestry needle

 

Gauge [Tension]

With Foundation Chain start 
4 stitches x 2 rows = 1” 

 

 

Written Instructions

Finished headband is ~20-21” by 4.5”

Sizing Up/Down

Sizing Up:

To increase the length, add 3 Fch for every 1” you want added.

Row 5: add 1 extra *Sk x 1, (DC-CH1-DC) 1 times, Sk x 1* for every 3 Fch 

Row 6: add 1 extra **Ch x 1, (4-DC-PC) 1 times, Ch x 1* for every 3 FCh

Sizing Down:

To decrease the length, remove 3 FCH for every 1” you want shortened

Row 5: remove 1 *Sk x 1, (EDC-CH1-EDC) 1 times, Sk x 1* for every 3 FCh 

Row 6: remove 1 *Ch x 1, (4-DC-PC) 1 times, Ch x 1* for every 3 FCh 

 

Instructions

(In White) Row 1: FCh x 80 (80 stitches)

Row 2: ESC x 1, HDC x 9. *SC x 1, DC x 1* x 30. HDC x 10 (80 stitches)

Row 3: ESC x 1, HDC x 9. *SC x 1, DC x 1* x 30. HDC x 10 (80 stitches) Change to Brown

(In Brown) Row 4: ESC x 1, HDC x 9. *SC x 3, DC x 3* x 10. HDC x 10 (80 stitches)

Row 5: ESC x 1, HDC x 9. *SC x 3, DC x 3* x 10. HDC x 10 (80 stitches) Change to Green

(In Green) Row 6: EDC x 10. *Sk x 1, (EDC-CH1-EDC) 1 times, Sk x 1* x 20. EDC x 10 (80 stitches) Change to Flower Colour

(In Flower Colour) Row 7: StSC x 1, DC x 9. *Ch x 1, (4-DC-PC) 1 times, Ch x 1* x 20. DC x 10 (80 stitches) Change to Blue

(In Blue) Row 8: ESC x 1, HDC x 79 (80 stitches)

Row 9: ESC x 1, HDC x 9. *SC x 1, DC x 1* x 30. HDC x 10 (80 stitches)

Row 10: ESC x 1, HDC x 9. *SC x 1, DC x 1* x 30. HDC x 10 (80 stitches)

Row 11: ESC x 1, HDC x 9. *SC x 1, DC x 1* x 30. HDC x 10 (80 stitches)

Fasten off. Leave an 8-10” tail for construction. 

Construction Instructions

 

With the right side facing up. Line the short ends so they meet halfway.


Fold the top flap down so it meets halfway on the bottom


Fold the last flap up so it meets halfway on the top


Sew the 4 layers together going one with one tail, and the other way with the second tail. This will provide a secure hold.


Weave in ends


Flip headband inside out.
