At Butterfly Chain Designs, you can find one of a kind pieces that are designed for every day wear.

Now let's dig in to the fun stuff!

When did your business first open? And what inspired you to start it?

I have always been a very creative person, and I've loved making things since I was a kid. I started my business officially in 2005.

How did you get the background and skills necessary to run this type of business?

Most of the skills that I use today are self-taught. I learned a lot by taking apart other jewelry to see how it all fit together. Don't be afraid to try new things and make mistakes.

I started off doing beadwork and wirework when I was around 13 years old -finding patterns in books. I moved onto chainmaille in 2005. I loved being able to weave rings into intricate patterns.

Around 2010 I took a Silversmithing course through Conestoga College. It was an 8 week course that taught some basics, and when it was over I went to the library and took out every book on silversmithing, and watched every video on Youtube I could find.

What products do you specialize in?

I specialize in creating sterling silver jewelry. gemstone, and beaded jewelry. I've tried out many

Where can customers find your products?

You can usually find me at physical craft markets. With COVID-19, you'll be able to find my products anytime online on My Website or Guelph Market

What are some things you'd like the Guelph community to know?

If you are able to, always try to give back to the community. I usually set aside a portion of my sales towards purchasing donations for the Humane Society and Hope House. Both of which are very close to my heart.

If you had one piece of advice to someone just starting out, what would it be?

I never had to courage to put myself out there, and participate in shows. When I finally did, my first few shows I had a very difficult time talking to customers. You need to be able to put yourself out there. It might seem like a small little thing - but believe in yourself! Be proud of yourself!

Thank you so much Julia from Butterfly Chain Designs for taking the time to share their story with us.
